Well, it seems certain to be better than Nemesis... although a time-lapse video of poop-on-a-stick is Oscar material compared to that steaming reel of excrement.

The rational part of my brain is trying to question how Kirk magically goes from James Dean-wannabe to James Tiberius Kirk without things like starfleet academy, climbing the ranks, etc. but the OMG shiny part of my brain is hyperventilating at the Trekz0rz. I am conflicted.

Could have lived without the needless vintage car destruction in a Star Trek trailer, but it looked pretty cool. I think J.J. Abrams is making a huge push to do what they hired him to do; reboot an aging and tired franchise to attract new fans without completely losing the old ones. I actually kind of like the way the look is an update from the original show. I don't think it's a slam dunk based off this, but it looked interesting enough to get me to a theater.

@jthomann - Uh.. this is a blog about nerdly things. Like Star Trek. So they post things that might interest the readers of such a thing, and then the readers discuss. That's kind of how this whole thing works. Kind of like how some people just go around posting insane rantings about what other people are posting. Get a grip. It's just the internet.

I'm gonna tell you what I told those idiot fanboys over at IMDb: get a life! To all who see the trailer as an impending sign of Armageddon, try seeing the movie where the scenes from the trailer can be seen IN CONTEXT. The studio knows you Trekkies are going to see this movie, no matter how much you protest it's every aspect. The trailer is aimed at the non-traditional fan. It's made to ramp up excitement in those who may not have thought to see it in the first place. You know you're going to see it no matter how much you say it'll suck. Stop wasting everyone's time with all this whining about a freaking trailer. And get lives, for the love of god.

Also, Simon looks like he's channeling Dr. Who. Tell me you couldn't tack "Now run for your life!" on the end of his bit.

And the stuff about Spock's dual heritage -- come on, that's not reboot, that's just cut and paste.
.
Totally! I mean, between Uhura being black and Scotty being Scottish, it's like they're not even trying to reboot this thing!

This looks at least "see it in the theater" good. Which beats "see it on video" Nemesis hands down, and absolutely destroys "don't even bother" or "isn't that the Quantum Leap guy" Enterprise. Of course I saw Transformers at the pre-screening the day before opening day, so which proves that I am a sucker for all things 80's. (Any word on a humpback cameo?)

Where was Pegg? At the end? I thought he was Scotty??!

I just watched it, and found him. But his presence didn't redeem the trailer for me. After Nemesis (and Enterprise), I have such low expectations for a Star Trek project, it is not even funny. They need to show that this will go back to the roots of what made Star Trek great, and that surely isn't action. There was nothing here that said, "We know what went wrong, and we aren't making the same mistakes again". Nothing at all. All this trailer says is, "We managed to finagle a good amount out of Paramount for effects, but not much for casting" (I still can't quite believe that the cast is filled by actors that have done almost nothing in their short little actor lives. They have a lot riding on their shoulders.)
