This, too, is true. Your cast includes Jaden Smith -- son of Will -- as the eponymous Kid, and no less a personage than Jackie Chan as the aging master Mr. Miyagi. Behind the camera: one Harald Zwart, the cinematic legend behind One Night at McCool's and Pink Panther 2. It's nice to know the cultural treasures of my childhood are in good hands. (Yes, that's how you spell his name. What can he do, the dude is Dutch.)
Judging from the Variety story, the premise of the new version must be a bit different, since it's set in Asia. That's all I know.
Sweep the leg, Johnny.

Come on, can't they come up with new stuff?
ENOUGH WITH THE REMAKES!!!!

From everything I've heard, they had damn well better rename it Kung-Fu Kid. Thanks to that movie, I spent years in karate classes (and, if you ask my wife, in therapy). I don't mind a remake, but that movie was largely about what "real" karate is versus Krese's combat classes. Changing the martial art but still calling it karate is like remaking "Pink Cadillac" but using a Lincoln Town Car.

Sweep the leg, indeed. Sweep the leg of whatever creatively bankrupt hack is behind this and follow that with a crane technique kick to their face. Because when it's done properly, it can't be defended against. (At least, until Karate Kid II.)

Anybody want to take a bet that some black soul producer is trying to get the rights for a Die Hard remake with Dane Cook in the Bruce Willis role?

After your first paragraph, Kemper, I was all ready to say "Who cares, it's a new movie, don't watch it if you don't want to see a remake."
But then you mentioned Die Hard and I switched stances on this. The remakes must be stopped.

HAve you learned nothing from South Park people!!!! we have to save the films from their producers or they will always be changing and editing the moments that some of us hold dear! Look at star Wars series...ahhhh ... Indiana jones 4 was a joke.... are they even making films nowadays... None of them are even worth my 2 bucks to rent on DVD. i agree though on Jackie Chan as Miagi??? NOOOOO! that's not right at all.. Leave it Be AS IS... There was 4 karate kid movies ... Let us remember Pat morita with the honor he deserves..Keep the original
