I know I am responding to this several weeks after posting, but I just wanted to say that your impressions of Readercon are very close to mine. This was my very first convention, and I felt much the same nervousness meeting people like Gene Wolfe or Michael Dirda, both of whom proved to be extremely kind people. I too feel guilt over not having read Lud-in-the-Mist.

I do wish I had seen the Antiquarianism panel, but there was so much going on that I somehow think missing one panel cannot be too much of a loss. A lot of talk of William Morris there I expect?

I briefly talked to you about book reviewing; you suggested I look into freelance work for PW. Who knows if such a thing will turn out, given the shakeups over there, but thank you for the advice.

Man, I am jealous. You read a fantasy book here in Phoenix, and people just look at you funny. "Why are you wastin' yer time on that fake stuff, boy?" they ask, and spit off the porch. "Why can't you watch football, like a real Amurkan?"
