I'm on vacation. Sort of -- I'm touring to promote my book. I thought I might be able to keep up posting while I was on the road, but it doesn't seem to be happening. Sorry about that. I'll be back on Monday.

p.s. just saw that there were questions in the comment thread for The Post About the Book. Answering now.

  1. Loved the book. I think I got you a couple of sales on Goodreads. Kickbacks are accepted.

Enjoy the tour. Work fast on the sequel. I need to know what happens next.

Selman and Quittner need to pick up some of the slack around here. I would suggest borrowing the robot from Tuned In that James P. uses when on vacation and turn Robo-James into Robo-Lev, but, you know, robots....

  2. spoilers (but not really)
    .
Just finished the book yesterday. It was great. The bear in Fillroy reminded me of Sexual Harassment Panda. I could just hear him using the same droopy voice - "I'm a baaaad bear"
    .
When Quentin left his job and executive office, did he get a golden parachute?
    .
Was the moral of the story to do drugs because life is meaningless and getting high is the best kind of happiness constantly depressed intellectuals can hope for?
    .
What ever happened to Quentin's strung out friend that was trying to get into the school?
    .
Why does the questing beast suck at life? Also - why couldn't it repair body parts that were in another world, but could send Quentin to a place that was in another world? Please don't pull a Simpsons and have Xena tell me that a wizard did it.
    .
I feel like such a dork.

  5. Is a book without teenaged vampires allowed to crack the top 10 anymore?

Congrats Lev. There will be much rejoicing in Nerd World.

  7. @dennitzio, of course we're going to read it. We're his biggest fans.

Then we're going to craft analogies b/t Quentin and Baltar, or somesuch thing. That's how we roll.

  9. OK, somebody has to post this! At least as long as it still works. Looks like my 80s arguments come to life: elves vs. mechwarriors! Player A: Dude, the elves would totally stomp mechs, because they can command nature & dragons & shoot arrows through the teeny tiny air holes! Player B: Come on, Mechs would simply open up an RPG on Galadriel or whatever and make elf soup...

  10. @ alaskanturkey

    (minor book spoilers)

    - The very final page reveals that Eliot had recruited Julia

-The Questing Beast/ talking bear scenes made in have to put book down for several minutes because I was laughing so hard

    - I kind of felt like this book was about the perverse relationship people can have with escape/copping mechanisms(drugs, booze, fantasy novels) , when they don't enough (or don't sense, value the things) grounding them in the real world
