It's one thing to cast Ryan Reynolds for the upcoming Green Lantern movie but the possibility of bringing Jackie Earle Haley to lead the charge against the emerald green do-gooders leaves us rather giddy. At the moment, Haley is only intrigued by the idea but hasn't officially signed on to be Hal Jordan's former mentor and current arch-nemesis. But that's not all, says Aint It Cool.

This, too, is just scuttlebutt, but sources close to the film have mentioned the possibility of Superman making an appearance in the film the way Nick Fury and Tony Stark have done in the Marvel Universe.

Aside from the recent string of Batman films directed by Nolan, have any other DC-based movies done well? Superman Returns was abysmal and I suppose the Watchmen movie was okay, but nothing else comes to mind. Thoughts on either rumor?

  1. Wait. What? Who are you? I was just getting used to Josh.

More importantly, have you seen BSG?

  8. Superman Returns abysmal!? Why the animosity? I've always felt like I was the only one defending that film. Me, and Bryan Singer. It was peppered with so many great "Superman moments". Maybe I should be crediting the cinematographer. Love to see him the in GL movie.
Does History of Violence count as a DC-based flick?

  11. Superman returns wasn't that bad -- I really liked it when the kid apparently flung the piano into the archetypal henchman.

Peter - I think BSG is Battle Star Galactica (well, it's either that or some subset fetish acronym for which I cannot find the definition. Hello, and welcome.

Regardless of the veracity of the rumors regarding Jackie Earl Haley, any movie that adds Moocher from Breaking Away has upped its awesomeness potential.

With respect to the HOV question posed by thebro88, I would add Road to Perdition to the query.

  15. Lev has undoubtedly coached him on how to drive up his post count with BSG-baiting. The question now is how we let him feel the full wrath of our nerd fury without rewarding his bad behavior with extra comments. Hmmmm...

  21. While I like Superman Returns, I understand why others didn't. I think the next Superman movie has to be a little more fun. Superman feeling sorry for himself isn't the best set up for a movie.

DC had a good thing with the original Superman and Nolan's Batman movies. I think the Tim Burton Batman films are arguable. Now that they're tightening things up, like Marvel, we may see some more consistent quality. We'll see how Jonah Hex comes out. Geoff Johns is now working on The Flash, which is a good thing. For right now, they're playing catch up.

  22. Superman 4 was abysmal. Superman 3 wasn't much better.

Superman Returns wasn't perfect, but you had to appreciate Singer's love for the '78 film which was present througout. There's a lot to like about SR, even if it didn't quite work as a popcorn flick.
