Did anyone catch Onstad's recent appearance(s) on public radio? On 'The Sound of Young America' (a decent show with a horrible name) Onstad talked about the pressure of dealing with book signings and tours, i.e. a physical print process versus just putting up new comics (a paper-and-dark-horse-free endeavor). I don't envy a small business owner in this economic climate, and as a semi-long-term Achewood reader, I'll hang in there, even if it is frustrating that comics are thinner on the ground these days. That said, I'll be cold in the ground before I pay for "subscriber only" content. Anything that puts up a pay wall (whether it's the Wall Street Journal or some goofy comic about stoned cartoon cats in California) can count on me saying no thank you. I think a tip jar approach would be much better.

@mkmcintyre - Gotta make a livin' somehow. I've gotten over the slower post times as the art work is getting more detailed. The physical books have a lot of content not online or in the subscriber feature, according to his headline, that seems to be where much of his attention has been lately.

@comicalice -- When he gets to it, Chris is indeed an amusing lad. Beef's latest death (what, again?) and the sojourn in North Korea were top-drawer. However, I've been following Achewood since the good old days when he: a) posted Achewood daily, rather than weekly-ish; b) had more that 4 t-shirts & a tattered pamphlet in his store; c) didn't make you pay to read his other content. I wouldn't mind subscribing, ordinarily. However, it appears that his attention is focussed on this monetized content, and the "regular" strip is tossed out just often enough to keep the punters coming back.

@recordingdope - Really? Did you miss the Beef dies story? Where you not intrigued by a magical realism North Korean adventure with Kim Jong Il? Smoke more pot or something, his work has been at new levels of the medium. If you're looking for dick and fart jokes I'm sure you can find plenty of other things to read on the web.
