Peter and I chose our top 10 games of the year. For Time. Then we chose them for Techland. Amazingly they turned out to be the exact same list both times. Here it is.
Or anyway here's the first 40% of it. The whole list is over at Time.com, for some reason. I don't want to talk about it.
One good thing about this year's list: it was easy to pick ten, because it was an amazing year for games. In any normal year Killzone 2 would be on this list. So would the new Ratchet and Clank, inFamous, Street Fighter 4, Shadow Complex, FIFA 10 ... actually now that I think about it, it was pretty damn hard to write this list.

It's nice to see that Modern Warfare 2 is number one. And I'm happy DJ Hero is up there, so now I don't have to feel totally lame as a wii owner.

Sorry, but you guys are obviously not gamers... MW2 on top? Way to play to the masses... And UC2 on a 10th place? UC2 is one of the best games I have ever played, it's gameplay, it's story, it's graphic, all are superior than every title you put on there. To put it behind titles like DJ Hero, ACII, and Halo ODST (a.k.a the Halo 3 expansion pack) just shows that you know nothing about games. KZ2 was by far a better game than MW2 too, and it should be on the list. I know these are just your opinions, but Time needs to hire some people that actually knows stuff about games...

Sweedie1, this list is someone's opinion. Videogame greatness, like films and novels, is subjective in nature. In today's metascore obsessed world it's easy to forget that fact. To say that this list "just shows that you know nothing about games" is just plain childish.
Also, you decry Halo and other multiplatform titles, only to profess the greatness of Killzone and Uncharted. Is it only a coincidence that you promote PS3 games over all others?

I said it's their opinion, but when you write a list like this you have to know what you're talking about. They can think whatever they want, but there are some facts that one have to look at in order to put a list like this together. Like gameplay, story, graphics, sound etc. And with that in mind, anyone in their right gaming mind would not put UC2 on a 10th place, and leave out KZ2 all together. Simple as that. Hence, they don't know what they're talking about. You call it metascore obsessed world, I call it "the general opinions of people that actually know what they're talking about".
I don't promote anything either, I'm just stating what should be on there. I play mostly PS3, but I play the other two consoles as well. Halo ODST IS nothing but an expansion pack of Halo 3, I like the game, but it's far from being the top game of the year, and to say that it's better than KZ2 (or any other game that's already on this list for that matter) is just ridiculous.
Things like this is exactly why Time isn't as respected as it once were...
