Season 6: Episode 1 and 2
Peter Ha: Well, what did you think? We have two separate story lines going: one where everything worked and one where everyone is still on the island.
Allie Townsend: Who knows? I'm more frustrated than before the season started. And I HATE the way the writers brought back Juliet just to die in the first few minutes of the show. That was such a cheap shot.
I think that by reversing what happened, the crew is going on like the crash never happened, but events will happen that will still bring them all together and back where they started. It was destiny. DUM DUM DUM!
I'm frustrated. I just want to hit fast forward to the finale.

PH: Right. Let me refer to my notes. Yes, I took notes.
So we're under the impression that Juliet's actions have set things right. After all, the entire island is underwater. We even see Boone, Charlie and that dumbass teacher again on the plane. But it got weird. Jack sort of recognized Desmond and then when he went to the bathroom he found that his neck was bleeding. And then Desmond disappeared. Charlie tried killing himself and Jin was being the dominant Korean man that he is.
AT: So what on earth is coming for the rest of the folks in the temple? And who is inside John Locke's body?
I have so many questions I can't stand it. I hate you, TV.
PH: Everyone on the island is a sheep. They‚re constantly looking for someone to lead them, but Sawyer finally broke out. “I ain't following nobody, Kate.” Also, Sawyer was smart to keep Miles around to help him bury Juliet. But what did she mean when she said that it had worked? She died and Sawyer is back on the island. Or is he?
(More on Time.com: LOSTwatch: A Different World(s))
AT: Parallel universes, man. There are different versions of ourselves walking around in different times. All at once. Or something.
And I think the monster in Locke wants to use Locke as a vehicle to get him off the island. I think Jacob had figured out how to suppress it, and with Jacob gone, he is unleashed. So. Many. Questions.
PH: Sayid dies and then comes back to life. And there are Other Others or Other Other Others. Excuse me while I go and throw something against the wall.
AT: Until next week, then...
More on Techland:

It seriously pissed me off too, but it was cool that we found out that the "Dark" dude is the smoke monster and know for sure that he is possessing Locke.
I am still wondering about Richard and what in the hell did the guy mean, "It's good to see you out of chains." WTF? Could they throw anymore questions our way. Why in the hell does Richard wear eyeliner? Freaky...

I agree. Richard looked really spooked, so at least he knows who or what is possessing Locke.

Is he possessing Locke? Locke's dead body is laying out there on the beach. It seems like he's more of a clone or taking the form of Locke's appearance.
PS: Richard isn't wearing eyeliner! The actor looks like that in every role (he plays the mayor in The Dark Knight). He could be an eyelash model!

I think Richard is some kind of ancient immortal egyption. The hyroglyphics (is that how you spell it?) seen on the island tell me egypt plays an important part along with rituals & reincarnation beliefs. The smoke monster seems to be some kind of ancient egyption god that was summoned unless there's a scientific explanation for it. I'm still "Lost" pun intended.

@crispy You're right. It's not possession. Just a monster(?) in a Locke suit.
@hazado9 That's an interesting theory, but I hope they don't introduce too many groups tied to the island. We still need to figure out who on earth those guys in the temple are.

I thought Jack recognized Desmond on the plane because he met him in the stadium for a brief conversation. It was before Desmond left on his sailing adventure that left him stranded on the island.
Was the water red to symbolize Jacob's death? They seemed to suggest that when clear it was healing water but it didn't seem to work like it should have. I'm thinking that means Jacob is now possesing Sayid much like the "evil" is possessing Locke. It's the battle btwn good and evil. Of course I'm thinking Jacob is "good" but that's probably a plot trap.

I'm pretty sure Richard is from The Black Rock -- it was a slave ship (or at least had slaves on it), thus the chains comment. In fact, that comment pretty much clinched the Black Rock theory for me, personally. And as someone mentioned, Richard doesn't wear eyeliner -- Nester Carbonell did a bit on the season 5 DVD features where he showed that he just has really dark eyelashes.
Agreed, cbol -- Jack recognized Desmond from the stadium. He had the same "don't I know you?" moment when he first met him on the island, too, for the same reason. The blood on the neck, however, is interesting...

@clarely Good theory with The Black Rock. I bet you're correct there. So that means the thing impersonating Locke could be the person in charge of the slaves?

This might be a mild SPOILER... but Richard is getting the backstory treatment. Finally! So this will all be cleared up.
I don't think he's Egyptian. I agree with people that say he's from the Black Rock, and I think Jacob somehow bestowed upon him the gift of long life. In exchange for his service (i.e. the chains that were mentioned).
I think the Egyptian hieroglyphics, statues, etc. are just there to show that the island is really frakkin old. And that numerous cultures and ethnicities have been to it and shaped it. For instance, now there's a Japanese guy?! Where the heck did he come from?

The movie Crank 2 has a better plot than the entire series of LOST. Why anyone thinks this series is worth watching is beyond me...the show had to evoke the deus ex machina method via time travel because it couldn't explain itself any other way...show sucks...

@Allie I think it's safe to say that fake Lock (who I am now christening Smocke) is the same mysterious man we saw in the season 5 finale, aka Jacob's nemesis.
As far as Desmond is concerned I think there's two possibilities:
1) Detonating Jughead in 1977 somehow "sunk" the island, therefore Desmond never crashed his boat there, somehow ended up on the same flight as Jack and the rest and Jack simply recognized him from their Stadium encounter. If this is the case however, why the disappearing act?
2) He's now "The Variable" that Faraday was talking about. Free to travel between the two realities. Kind of like how he was somehow "unstuck" from time in both season 3 and season 4 episodes. Is he somehow going to be the catalyst that causes the two realities to converge? Will the two realities converge? So many questions.
Also, did anyone else notice that when Sayid was carried out of the pool in the temple that he was in a very Christ-like dead on the cross position?

And what about Christian's body not making it onto the plane? What's the significance of that? My brain hurts.
And did anyone else expect Locke to stand up and walk of the plane in the 2004 timeline? I thought for sure that was going to happen after he described the walkabout to Boone. That would have been in keeping with how the subtle differences between this plane and the old plane, although I guess that's not very subtle now is it.
It would have been an awesome way to end the first hour though.

@jeia56 Good theories. I think you're on to something. So Jacob really was the good guy? Which means there is some great destiny for the group? Craziness.
I also saw the way they carried out Sayid's body. Totally theological. That AND the last supper photo. What's with all the Bible refs?

I'm not totally convinced yet that Jacob is the good guy, or that the MIB is evil for that matter. I think one of the major themes of this season is going to be man's free will. Yes, I'm sure Jacob has some sort of plan/destiny in store for the losties, but that destiny may not be what Jack, Sawyer and the rest want and that will ultimately be the final struggle of the show.
As far as Jacob goes, think about this for a second: He gave Hurley the guitar case containing the ankh before Hurley got on the Ajira flight, which means that he must have known that that they were going to get sent back to 1977, known that they were going to detonate a nuclear device that sends them back to the present. He must have known that Sayid was going to get shot in 1977 and must have known that he was going to need him/his body for some purpose. Which means that he must have known that Ben would kill Locke, that smokey would use Locke's body as a vessel, and he must have known that he was going to "die". Crazy
As far as the bible refs go, here's some more: In the old testament, Jacob was one of the sons of Isaac and was the third patriarch of the Jewish people. He had a brother named Esau. When Isaac was old, blind and dying Jacob deceived him and stole Esau's birthright. Could the MIB= Easu?
Benjamin, in the old testament, was one of the twelve sons of Jacob. In Greek mythology, Linus is any of the three sons of Apollo. Important? I think so.
Ajira 316= John 3:16?
The way that Jacob appears to have gone to great lengths to set up his OWN death, without actually trying to prevent it, kinda reminds me of the lengths that Jesus went to in order to ensure that his own death occurred as it was supposed to. I may be stretching that one a bit.
Don't even get me started on the Egyptian mythology on this show.

My personal theory involves looking at the whole island as the stage for a titanic struggle between two imortal beings - Jacob and Smokey/MIB/Esau/whatever. Whatever Smokey wants - and I don't think wanting to go home necessarily means getting off the island, but that would take me way off-topic - Jacob won't let him have it, and they bring people to the island to use them as part of their ongoing battle. Kind of God-v-Devil, battling over Earth and using humanity as the armies.
Richard is part of (the infinitely better version of) Team Jacob, but Smokey doesn't think he was there willingly, thus the chains remark AND the fact that he didn't kill him right away.
I really need a new hobby, huh?
