March Madness: It's On Like Donkey Kong!

Welcome to the showdown, folks.

Who will take the top prize as the most villainous super villain in TECHLAND's March Madness tournament? Are the raptors from Jurassic Park clever enough to defeat the Smoke Monster from LOST in their first round match? Is Doctor Horrible horrible enough to take on Mordred? Can Lucy Van Pelt topple the likes of Magneto and Darkseid? We think Blinky has the moves to take on M. Bison, but you tell us.

Click on the photo below to enlarge or get the printable PDF version here.

We've intentionally left each “villain” unranked, as they're equally dastardly. Our tournament will run the same as the NCAA basketball tournament with the first round matches set for Thursday and Friday.

Did we miss anyone? Is there a Cinderalla amongst the 64? Wagers on who will take the whole enchilada? Check back on Thursday at 11AM ET for half of the first round matches.

  1. Light Yagami. Really liking that as a cinderella/anti-hero choice there. Though I don't think he'll go even past the first round because of lack of people actually knowing who or what he's from.

Also, that Oolong bracket seems overly-stacked

  2. Even if Light made it through the initial rounds, which I would seriously hope for with who he is up against, he wouldn't stand a chance if he eventually had to go up against Darkseid. I mean a guy with the borrowed power of a god trying to reshape the world up against a new god trying to reshape the entire universe...

  3. I'm going have to go with Darth Vader to take it all because...he's Darth Vader and that nanscent bit of good in him makes his villany all the more wretched.

The sad part is, I don't know who half of these characters are. I feel like I've lost ten million nerd points or something because I don't know who half of these guys are. And the other ones leave me scratching my head. I mean seriously? Lucy Van Pelt from the Peanuts? SERIOUSLY? I don't think Lucy Van Pelt qualifies as Evil. B*tchy yes. Evil? No. Ditto for the Raptors. Ruthless, brilliant hunting machines? Yes? Evil? No.

Unless of course y'all are card carrying PETA members which in that case, it makes a lot more sense.

And where are the Aliens and the Predator? If we're including the Raptors then shouldn't they be included too? Just some food for thought...

  4. How is this being done? Are we voting, or do the villains correspond with teams in March Madness (if so, then I might actually make a bracket for basketball this year, to correspond with the villains)?

  5. Also, two DC Locations? Where's Marvel being represented (But major to props to Narnia and most especially Rapture)?

  6. Hey Fltm,

Marvel has several entries including Galactus, Bullseye (from Daredevil), the Kingpin, Doc Oc, and Magneto.

  7. I'm going to have to agree with Treepeony, Lucy doesn't belong anywhere near this list. Pulling the football away from good ol' Charlie Brown doesn't come close to the others in terms of nastiness. I mean if you're going to go down the daily comic strip list of villians, at the very least, Dilbert's pointy haired boss, or Catbert, are much more evil than.

Or pick any of the myriad of space monsters conjured up by Calvin's Space Man Spiff.

But that's just this small speck of nerd'dom. Not having the Aliens, or Predator is egregious.

HOWEVER, there is a bright spot. Dracula is listed twice; once in the Narnia bracket under Count Dracula, and the other in the Rapture bracket under Dracula.

  8. But if you're going to place either Narnia villans or Voldemort, then how do you skip Sauron? Or Mogroth? for that matter.

And for that matter, how does Zeus fall into this segment? I mean if you're going to go ancient Myths, Loki beats him hands down.

  9. Where is Sauron? The Dark Lord not evil enough?
BTW, you got Dracula listed twice.

  10. Jacobblues, I know there are several Marvel and DC characters, but there are two DC localities (Phantom Zone and Oolong Island). I just thought I might be better to have one Videogame (Rapture, totally props for that), one comic book (DC/Marvel, but Peter put 2), one fantasy (Middle-Earth would be better than Narnia, but Narnia is a good choice. Better than Hogwarts or something) and one sci-fi (LV-426 [Alien franchise] anyone?! or The Matrix)

  11. Shouldn't Queen Jardis be Queen Jadis? Also thanks for sticking in thistle-down, should be a good first round bout.

  13. These needed to be seeded.

Voldemort vs Dracula, Lex Luthor vs Norman Osborne, Borg vs Daleks are all great match-ups.

    But in the first round?

That's how Lucy VanPelt is going to take it all. The heavy hitters wipe each other out and some unknown sneaks in.

  14. Light Yagami vs. Bullseye seems like one of the most difficult ones listed.

They can both kill pretty much anything that they desire, though in very different ways. All that Bullseye needs is something that he can throw, and all that Light needs is a pen and his notebook (if that).

The real question is: How can light kill someone that has a name that no one knows and a face covered at least partially by a mask?

There may still be enough of a face to use it anyway, but in order for Light to manipulate anyone else into taking the Shinigami's eyes to discover Bullseye's name, they would need to be able to look at him. Bullseye is a skilled assassin, and he knows if someone is following him or looking for him. Light would probably have the benefit of Bullseye not really knowing who he was after, but that doesn't matter if Misa or someone catches a glimpse of Bullseye only to get a knife in the skull. He can stay hidden, but he won't get any information.

Convincing someone to seduce Bullseye wouldn't work either, because he would much rather kill them and get on with the job.

A fantastic match-up, but it would be so much simpler to figure out if those two didn't face each other first thing.
